A recent project in the Schweinfurt Middle School eighth grade language arts classes gave students practice with the writing process. In response to the semi-autobiographical coming of age/loss of innocence story "The Sky is Gray" by Ernest J. Gaines, students wrote their own autobiographical or semi-autobiographical narratives highlighting either a coming of age or a loss of innocence experience of their own. Employing the writing process, students completed pre-writing activities, rough drafts, peer editing, and final drafts. The final stage of the writing process is publication, and, in addition to sharing their tales with one another, many students also enjoyed recording audio podcasts in order to "publish" their final written products. | |
