A
group of 6 teachers recently completed a course
in Japanese Lesson Study – a form of
professional development that is a common
practice in Japan. Lesson Study helps teachers
develop engaging and effective lessons for any
grade level in any subject area. The teachers
at Hohenfels Elementary School focused their
efforts on Functions and Algebra Concepts, one
of the DoDEA Curriculum Standards in math.
Bart
Zwicker, Principal of Hohenfels ES says, “Lesson Study
is a powerful tool for teachers. When the lessons
are focused and purposeful, increased student
achievement is a logical outcome. We will continue to
support the teachers' efforts as they use Lesson Study
to enhance their teaching.” |
