The Wuerzburg High School Video Production class, as part of their Professional Technical Studies Program, was recently asked if they could video the “The Health and Wellness Cooking Show” for AFN.  The students, like seasoned professionals, loaded their mobile studio and filmed the show on location at the beautiful Woodland Inn.

The cooking show came about when Deborah Davis, the Director, felt that Cooking Show would complement the existing programs of healthy living, staying fit and keeping active that were being taught by The Health and Wellness Council and the Walk to Iraq and Back Program. Both programs are directed by the 417th BSB.

 Interview Deborah Davis:

"As soon as I came up with the idea of the Health and Wellness Cooking Show, I approached AFN and asked them if they would like to air the show. They were excited and said they could air the show but did not have the man power to provide editing and filming for the show. However, I did hear about the Wuerzburg American High School Video Team, and I heard they had state-of-the-art equipment, which they do. They have awesome equipment, and they were able to produce a professional product, and so I used the Wuerzburg American High School each time.

End Interview

The host Ashley Button holds the show together with her charm, resourcefulness, and behind-the-scenes hard work. Each show has a different guest chef and a new bill of fare.

 Interview Ashley Button:

Through the Health and Wellness Cooking Show, I've been able to meet a variety of people from our producer, Deborah Davis, to my co-hosts, Kendra Kolvet and Chantal Santee, as well as a variety of guest chefs who have a wide variety of skills and culinary assets that they bring to the show. Also, I have the pleasure of working with the Wuerzburg High School media team, and I'm looking forward to getting to know even more of these people as we continue our work on the show.

End Interview

The high school video team is comprised of a Director, Editor, Sound and Video Technician, three Camera Operators, a Lighting Manager, and a Post Production crew. The students with their mobile studio have three cameras taping at all times as the Director gives instruction over the wireless headsets to the camera operators. Once the taping is complete, the footage is taken back to Wuerzburgs High School's Studio where any mistakes are edited using Final Cut Pro. The completed project is then exported to tape and sent to AFN for showing.

 Interview David Flom:

All these projects that we have been working on come under the umbrella of Professional Technical Studies, and the object of these studies would be to give the students real, actual, on-air experience; and the Cooking Show, for example, will be cut to DVD and will be then delivered to AFN for their use and be able to broadcast it.

End Interview

As part of the Bavaria District Digital Video Initiative, the Wuerzburg High School Video Production class continues to collaborate with the community to raise the quality of life.
