Inclusive education in
the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) is grounded in
the philosophy that ALL children can learn. It is a way of thinking
and acting about how to educate special needs students with their
peers. DoDDS educators believe that sharing responsibility through a
collaborative effort benefits all children and that through the
guiding principles of our Community Strategic Plan, inclusive
education can be accomplished. Inclusive education means that ALL
children can learn, have equal access to a high quality education, and
have the opportunity to be challenged to perform at higher levels of
achievement. |

Inclusive
education is no longer a voluntary commitment on the part of teachers
and the school. The Individual with Disabilities Education Act and
our implementing guidance, DoDInstruction 1342.12, state that children
with disabilities are to be educated with children who are not
disabled to the maximum extent possible. |

The practice of
inclusive education raises many questions and concerns among
teachers and parents and has created the need for guidance, support,
and training. The Bavaria District has made a commitment to
best inclusive practices via the TIPS program. To see more
about the TIPS program follow this link.
