Welcome to science education in the Bavaria district.  Our schools offer a comprehensive science program for students pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

Curriculum standards, effective instructional strategies, and new resources for teachers are essential components of the science program.

Our science program helps students make sense of the natural and designed world, it teaches critical and independent thinking, and it develops essential problem solving skills

In the Bavaria district, preschool through 5th grade teachers are participating in science pre-implementation training.  Each school will have 3 to 6 lead teachers who will be supporting standards based science education in their schools.

In their trainings, Teachers will be doing an in-depth study of the DoDDS science standards. Teachers are also working on designing lessons that incorporate the 5 E’s:  Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate.   By designing science lessons with these components,  students will be participating in inquiry science – science that is hands on and minds on.

There are two exciting opportunities for middle school teachers this year, the Jason project and Goldstone Apple Valley Radio Telescope, or GAVRT program.

Students participating in the Jason project will be able to work with real scientists studying the wetlands and ecology of Louisiana.

Students participating in the GAVRT project will actually be controlling a thirty meter radio telescope in the United States.  Students will be collecting data that will help scientists understand the temperature of other planets in our solar system.

Through focusing on curriculum standards, engaging instruction, and inquiry science, we have the tools to increase scientific literacy among our students.
